2026 has seen The Boo Radleys earn a welcome resurgence. Their recent album ‘In Spite of Everything’ earned a fresh wave of critical acclaim, extending the praise that has followed them since the ‘90s, and also reached #7 on the UK Official Record Store Chart. And packed tours of the UK and France led to further headline runs to be scheduled this autumn. Now this era in The Boo Radleys’ journey continues with the release of the ‘King Budgie’ EP on October 9th.
The EP leads with ‘King Budgie’, a highlight from ‘In Spite of Everything’, and is completed by three new songs from the album sessions. The EP will be released on limited edition 10” vinyl (500 copies) and digital formats. ‘King Budgie’ is a standout moment of the recent album and an emerging fan favourite at live shows. Its earworm synth motif is instantly addictive, like a ‘70s sci-fi theme reimagined for the modern age, while its sweet vocal harmonies and insistent hook recall their success during the Britpop years. Lyrically it’s intriguing, too: an avian perspective which feels surreal at first, but that ultimately captures the feeling of pure human optimism.
The EP’s new songs all show that The Boo Radleys were in the midst of a burst of inspiration as they wrote the ‘In Spite of Everything’ album. ‘Love Song For A Dutch Prostitute’ sources a delicate beauty in imagining the most fleeting of connections during a work conference to Amsterdam; ‘I Know That It’s Alright’ builds from glitch-pop psychedelia into a distorted shoegaze finale; and ‘Wanna Do’ instantly hits hard with a grungey attack and power-pop dynamics.
‘In Spite of Everything’ receives its full release in France on October 16th, with a headline tour following soon after. The band return to the UK in November, culminating with the Shiiine On Weekender and a London show at Oslo. Tickets are available HERE.
