Tom Odell has shared his introspective and achingly affecting new song ‘Answer Phone’ out today on UROK. Listen HERE. ‘Answer Phone’ is the third track released in the run-up to Tom’s anticipated new album, and is the striking opening cut on Black Friday, to be released on January 26, 2024. Pre-order the album HERE.

‘Answer Phone’ is a pained yet playful confessional of loneliness, written by Tom and co-produced by him and Cityfall. The song unfolds with equal parts intensely personal detail and incisive reflection on such matters as loss, anxiety, and the fragility of connection. Though Tom often puts the spotlight on the piano, ‘Answer Phone’ is propelled by an understated arrangement of jangly acoustic guitar and haunting strings that result in a deeply satisfying, low-fi gem.

Speaking about the inspiration for ‘Answer Phone’ Tom says, “It’s a song that explores the idea of loneliness and the desire to be looked at, a longing to not be on your own. There’s a lot of shame in it, but there’s a degree of self-awareness and humour as well.”

His self-deprecation is on full display with clever lyrics such as, “Dressed up like it’s Halloween, dancing alone to ‘Billie Jean,’ praying that somebody takes me home….praying that tonight I won’t have to sleep alone, with your answer phone.”

Tom Odell recently announced the biggest UK & EU headline tour of his career to date for Spring 2024 that includes two sold out shows at London’s Roundhouse. Tom has already sold out multiple shows on the tour and will play to over 100,000 fans. Due to such phenomenal demand, Tom recently added another show in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and upgraded three venues with more shows still to be announced. Tickets are on sale now. It follows his biggest and most successful recent North American tour, where he played cities across America including Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Nashville, Philadelphia and more.

‘Answer Phone’ follows Tom’s latest singles including ‘Somebody Else’ and the album’s monster title track ‘Black Friday’ which propelled him into the top 100 most streamed artists in the world. ’Black Friday’ racked up 2 million streams in its first day alone, and 50 million streams to date. Connecting with people around the globe, the track has resonated in a major way, generating fan content on TikTok that has garnered upwards of 150 million views on the platform.
