After the release of her haunting new singles ‘Double Life’ and ‘7 Billion’ earlier this month, 22-year-old French pop artist Marina Kaye has today announced her new album, and first in the UK, ‘Twisted’, due November 6th via [PIAS] Recordings. Alongside the announcement, a new lyric video for ‘7 Billion’ is also released today – watch here
Recorded between Los Angeles and London, the album features striking co-writes and production with the likes of David Stewart and Jessica Agombar, the duet who produced and co-wrote BTS’ worldwide record-breaking smash hit single ‘Dynamite’. ‘Twisted’ is a daring, intense and mature record where lyrics, melody and Marina’s powerful vocal work together as a vehicle for processing emotion and expressing what Marina calls her ‘twisted’ personality.
Cloaked in metaphor and more theatrical than ever, between piano pop balladry and electronic/R&B sounds, the eleven tracks of ‘Twisted’ are deeply personal, like a diary for the singer, that anyone feeling Love, Fear, Anger, Revenge or Passion could read as their own ‘If you can read between the lines – if you listen to my songs very closely – you can know everything about me.”
Speaking about the album, Marina says “The entire album is based on what’s happening inside my head. Each song describes what I’m going through as a young woman: Love, Fear, Anger, Revenge, Passion… I wrote and recorded 90% of the album with David Stewart and Jessica Agombar in London. I never left the studio without a new song, there’s a real chemistry in the studio whenever the three of us are together.”
At the age of just 13 years old Marina won La France a un incroyable talent (France’s Got Talent) in 2011. Four years later, her debut single ‘Homeless’ reached Number 1 in France and Marina’s first album Fearless also reached Number 1 in her home country, now certified triple platinum. To date Marina has just shy of 90 million collective views of her music videos on YouTube alone, and has performed over a hundred live headline shows.
Marina’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed: nine-time Grammy Award nominee Sia has written her a song, ‘Freeze You Out’ (listen here) — which has seen more than 11 million views on YouTube, and Marina has supported the likes of Lindsey Stirling and Thirty Seconds to Mars on their tours through France.
In the spotlight since the age of just 13 years old, now 22 and looking ahead to a bright new chapter in her highly-anticipated new album, and first UK full-length release in ‘Twisted’, 2020 is set to be a landmark year for dark pop queen Marina Kaye.
