Tis the Season to be jolly, and hilarity is most definitely on offer at HOME this Christmas! Families have not one but two delightful theatre shows to choose from. From the utterly charming and immersive White for all little ones aged between 2-4, to the equally captivating and very entertaining Dutch musical explosion that is Släpstick for older children. Both productions offer a fantastic first-time theatre experience for small people and a great festive treat for all. Plus there are family screenings of classic feel-good festive films.

Full of birdsong and birdhouses, the world of White gleams and dazzles and shines in the night. Two friends look after the birds and make sure the eggs stay safe. All is bright, ordered and very very white… But high up in the trees, something is different. Colours are appearing; not everything is white. First red, then yellow, then blue.

The award-winning and critically acclaimed White, presented by Catherine Wheels and directed by Gill Robertson, is a playful, highly visual and fully immersive show for the very young and a perfect first-time theatre introduction staged in the intimate setting of a white tent. Children sit on bean bags, not chairs, and wandering around the white canvas based set is permissible and actively encouraged! White runs Thu 13 – Sun 23 December.

Older children and adults alike are invited to the wonderful world of Dutch Släpstick. Expect musical mayhem, virtuoso musicianship and even flying violins! Winners of the 2017 Edinburgh Spirit of the Fringe Award, Släpstick is an ode to the timeless comedy of Charlie Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, Spike Jones and Laurel & Hardy, but with a very modern twist.

With a flair for eccentricity and hint of melancholy, five world-class performers blend their unique skills of exceptional live musical performance with awe-inspiring energetic physical comedy to present a show that is both highly entertaining and hugely heartfelt. Having mastered over 100 instruments between them, all played live throughout each show, together with perfect comic timing – Släpstick is a show for all that quite literally does what is says on the tin. Släpstick runs Thu 13 – Sat 22 December.

At the HOME cinema this December, a family-friendly screening of magical animated tale The Snowman and its sequel, The Snowman and the Snowdog, will further enchant young audiences, as will a special broadcast of The Nutcracker, live from the Royal Opera House, to get everyone into the festive spirit, followed by HOME’s annual ’80s movies season, with further special programming to be announced soon.

And if that was not enough Christmas cheer, you can also get your festive fun off to a delicious start by combining your trip to the theatre or cinema with a family friendly meal at HOME’s in-house restaurant.
White runs from Dec 13-23 for children aged 2-4. Släpstick is for all ages and runs from Dec 13-22. Press Performance for Släpstick is on Friday 14 December.
