This morning just got a bit less cloudy, thanks to Beck releasing the bittersweet new standalone single, “Thinking About You.” Listen here.

The first new original Beck song to be released since his universally acclaimed, GRAMMY-winning Hyperspace album, “Thinking About You” is a sublime dose of undiluted elemental Beck. A heart-tugging ballad in the tradition of classics Morning Phase and Sea Change—and incidentally recorded in the very same room as the latter—“Thinking About You” finds Beck’s wistful vocal and acoustic guitar tones accompanied  by Blake Mills (guitar, mandolin), Justin Meldal Johnsen (bass) and Roger Manning (keyboards).

“Thinking About You” drops on the eve of a busy touring year for Beck. His upcoming 2023 live calendar begins with a trio of stripped down acoustic performances in Australia, includes appearances at Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday shows at the Hollywood Bowl and the High Water Festival in North Charleston SC, and is rounded out by his highly anticipated North American co-headline tour with Phoenix.

Musical magpie who blends indie, folk, funk, blues and electronica to eclectic ends

It’s hard to think of a more creatively unpredictable musician than Beck. Case in point: just as he seemed to have nailed the transience and restlessness of the ’90s with sample-heavy, self-aware singles such as Devils Haircut and Loser, he abruptly changed tack and delivered the beautifully trippy Mutations. If anything, the only thing that is predictable is his unpredictability.
