Scottish singer-songwriter Blair Davie today announces the deluxe version of their EP, You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe?, featuring three new tracks. Alongside, Blair releases new single ‘Mess Like Mine’, . Pre-order You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe? Deluxe Version here.
Following the success of You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe?, Blair now completes the story with a deluxe version, and three completely new tracks. Out today, ‘Mess Like Mine’ sees Blair ruminate on learning to be more open. As the instrumental rises and crashes, Blair details welcoming someone into your life who inspires confidence, and allows you to accept your own vulnerabilities.
As seen across the EP, ‘Mess Like Mine’ highlights Blair’s unique ability to translate the most powerful of emotions into tracks that feel equally as impactful on an arena stage, as they do through a pair of headphones. You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe? Deluxe Version sees Blair continue to expand into a more rhythm-led sound, whilst exploring themes of love, identity, resilience and transformation.
Speaking on the deluxe EP, Blair says: “It completes the story. ‘Don’t Look Back’ is about leaving my family in Scotland to start a new life with the person all these songs are about; ‘Mess Like Mine’ is about learning to be open; ‘I Thought About You’ is the emotional outburst of falling in love for the first time. Put together, it’s the whole arc – breaking, opening up, and finally letting someone in.”
Speaking on ‘Mess Like Mine’ Blair says: “’Mess Like Mine’ is the follow-up to You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe? – the moment you realise you might not be too broken to be loved. It shaped the whole creative process, musically and visually. The line ‘and I look so good in a suit and tie / and I’m sorry if I led you to believe I’d be like that all of the time’ is the crux of the EP: learning to accept your flaws and vulnerabilities enough to let love in.”
After a flurry of exciting singles, the London-based Scottish born and raised singer-songwriter has been tipped as one of the most anticipated new artists on the rise right now. A seasoned performer, Davie has been writing music and fronting bands since a teenager. Blair’s rise can be pinpointed to the honesty and strength of songwriting, as well as having one of those rare voices that has the power to speak to our very souls. This talent has not gone unnoticed, with Davie receiving Amazon Music’s UK Rising Star Award, alongside an Ivor Novello Award nomination, at aged just 23.
