Firmly established as a post-punk legend through her work with The Fall, The Adult Net and The Extricated, Brix Smith’s debut album ‘Valley of The Dolls’ proved to be a fascinating proposition: a debut solo album from an artist with a storied history, and a record in which themes drawn from years of personal experience are expressed with the liberated rush of a youthful rock ‘n’ roll band. Produced by the Grammy Award winning Youth (The Verve, Jesus & Mary Chain, Killing Joke), the album evokes the rich melody and fiery grunge attack of The Breeders and Hole, while Brix’s lyrics examine the darker undercurrent that lurks beneath the gloss of The Golden State of California.
