Motown Records’ German Queen of Soul, Joy Denalane honors Bill Withers with her rendition of his timeless record “Use Me.” Listen here and watch the video which made its Broadcast premier on BET Soul here.

“Use Me” pays homage to one of the greats of soul, Bill Withers, who passed away on this day last year. Joy Denalane has reinterpreted the song in memory of the late singer. Joy’s version of “Use Me” is a powerful tribute of respect, femininity and love to one of the most influential soul artists of all time. For Joy Denalane, “Use Me” has a special meaning:

“Bill Withers once said he saw the clouds from both sides. He was a great storyteller, poet and composer. His songs like “Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Lean On Me” or “Just The Two Of Us” became anthems that we still sing today. In memory of this great songwriter who passed away a year ago, I recorded a new version of his song “Use Me”. Bill Withers will never be forgotten!”

“Use Me” follows Joy Denalane’s 2020 soul album, LET YOURSELF BE LOVED. The Motown album is in equal parts self-assertion, genealogy and homage to the great classics of the genre. A musical masterpiece where Denalane confidently brings together all the strands of her previous work. Nevertheless, she is not interested in vintage simulations of old soul recordings. She is driven by showing her musical identity. The album includes her singles “I Believe (Feat. BJ The Chicago Kid)” “I Gotta Know” and “Top Of My Love.” Recently Joy performed her track “Be Here In The Morning (Feat. CS Armstrong)” on COLORS.
