Sometimes something good comes from the worst of times. A mother of two teenage daughters, SoJo was in the midst of the breakdown of her marriage when she played her favourite song – ‘Flashdance…What A Feeling’ by Irene Cara – as an escape from the situation. The lyrics “Take your passion, and make it happen” spoke to her like never before. And so this enthusiastic but previously completely untrained music lover signed up for a songwriting course. It’s been a long journey to make it happen, but the moment is here as SoJo shares her new single ‘Arena For Love’ ahead of her debut album ‘Feeling Free’ which follows on December 4th. Listen HERE.

‘Arena For Love’ is SoJo’s big introduction to what she calls heartfelt pop: uplifting, energising and honest. As you can hear what it means to her from her impassioned vocal. Set to classic, don’t-bore-us-get-to-the-chorus pop, it’s the sound of breaking away from the heartache, rediscovering who you really are, and moving forwards with a new-found confidence. It also serves as a relatable, real-life story – if you’re sinking in a mid-life separation, ‘Arena For Love’ is a reminder that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

The inspiration for the song came at her lowest point. During the breakdown of her marriage, she immersed herself in self-development books as she tried to make sense of a future she hadn’t expected. Among them was Brené Brown’s ‘Daring Greatly’, where she encountered the famous ‘Man in the Arena’ passage from Theodore Roosevelt’s 1910 speech. The lesson was plain to see – you have to become the person who is brave enough to take a chance and step back into the arena.
