Donegal-born, Belfast-based singer-songwriter Kevin Laughlin has released his new single “Katie”, listen here, continuing a busy year that has seen the emerging artist release his debut music and build his profile through a growing run of live performances across Ireland.
Blending the warmth and storytelling of folk with the melodic accessibility of contemporary pop, “Katie” finds Laughlin reflecting on the uncertainty that can come with trying to figure out where life is taking you.
Written about a close friend who was struggling to find her path, the song takes a deeply personal experience and turns it into something universal: that familiar feeling of questioning where you are, where you are going and whether you are making the right choices.
“Katie is written about a friend who, like us all, was having a hard time figuring out the direction her life should go in.” — Kevin Laughlin
“Katie” follows Laughlin’s debut single, released in March 2026 and produced by acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter and producer Ryan Sheridan. The release marked Kevin’s first step into the spotlight as an original artist following years spent honing his craft as a live performer.
Since then, he has continued to build momentum on the road, including an Irish tour supporting Gearoid McCarthy, a support slot for Hermitage Green at Whelan’s, and a performance supporting Chris Boldt.
Drawing inspiration from songwriters including Paul Brady, James Taylor and John Mayer, Laughlin brings a strong emphasis on storytelling and melody to his music. His songs combine the intimacy of the singer-songwriter tradition with a contemporary folk-pop sensibility, informed by years of performing live around Ireland.
With “Katie”, Kevin Laughlin continues to introduce himself as an original artist with a growing catalogue of heartfelt, melodic songs and an increasingly busy live profile.
