Following a triumphant, sold-out hometown show at Manchester’s Gorilla last month, the North’s brightest rising star, singer-songwriter Alex Spencer, releases his latest call-to-arms, the striking ‘Clouded Thinking’. Listen to ‘Clouded Thinking’ HERE.
Darker and rockier than previous tracks, ‘Clouded Thinking’ is layered in shades and highlights, the beating undercurrent of bass in contrast with the glimmering piano. A common throughline of his music, Alex encourages his listener to embrace adventure, to ‘get away now’, and escape familiar hometown streets in favour of the wider world.
‘‘Clouded Thinking’ very quickly became about the urge to escape, and the powerful longing for something just out of reach.’ Alex says of the single, ‘The song also speaks to the struggle of living in a world full of dreams and goals, while being told they’re unattainable. It describes being trapped in an emotional cycle — tied to a place, a person, and a memory — knowing it’s harmful, yet finding it comforting.’
Having just completed a headline UK tour, Alex is set to play a run of shows this summer, including a stop at the BBC Introducing stage at Glasgow’s TRNSMT in July. Tickets are available HERE.
