SVN, the new seven-piece girl group formed of the original cast of the award-winning global phenomenon SIX The Musical, have returned with their latest independently-released, self-penned single ‘Free’ – a summery, upbeat anthem about acceptance and celebrating one’s self. Listen HERE. The single comes after its euphoric debut performance at Pride in London on the Trafalgar Square main stage at the weekend, a taste of what’s to come when SVN perform their debut headline show at London’s O2 Academy Islington on 7th August.

‘Free’ is a powerful summer anthem that creates a space for communities to feel celebrated, held and seen. It was important to SVN when writing the song to use no gendered language when speaking to the listener, creating first hand connection and community through music, so everyone can receive this song no matter how they identify. ‘Free’ takes the classic big SVN sound and structure then overlays it with positive affirmations “Be free / let go, and you’ll see”.

Celebrating their diversity as well as boasting incredible vocals, SVN are undeniably relatable. The former musical cast now turned pop stars, SVN is comprised of Aimie Atkinson, Alexia Mcintosh, Grace Mouat, Jarneia Richard-Noel, Maiya Quansah-Breed, Millie O’Connell and Natalie May Paris. Each member has their own hugely successful individual careers alongside the group, with major roles in Pretty Woman, & Juliet, RENT plus a number of Olivier Award nominations.

Speaking of the new single ‘Free’, they said: ‘When writing ‘Free’ we knew we wanted to create a song and a space for communities to feel celebrated, held and seen. Telling you and ourselves to ‘be free’ ‘let go and you’ll see’. Especially to the queer community, knowing they can play ‘Free’ and hear all these affirmations inside this song, so they can be who you want to be.’

SVN’s forthcoming gig at London’s O2 Academy Islington marks the group’s debut headline live show, following their virtual shows during lockdown, including a reunion show at Oval Space which became one of the first live-streamed concerts with a live audience, and their self-produced showcase ‘Girl Power’, selling over 12,000 tickets across the two events. At their headline show later this year, SVN will further cement their undeniable prowess as world class live performers, giving fans an exclusive preview of their forthcoming new music. Tickets are on sale here.
