After releasing ‘Undone’ earlier this month, rising five piece band MarthaGunn are back with their latest single ‘Minute of My Time’. This latest offering is the last single to be taken from their debut album ‘Something Good Will Happen’, due September 17th via Communion.  Listen here.

‘Minute of My Time’ details the frustration of a one-sided relationship. Continuing to push boundaries and unafraid to experiment, the new track fuses together a concoction of sounds from fuzzy synths and slick guitar lines to syncopated snares.

Explaining the meaning behind the new single, frontwoman Abi Woodman says “The most valuable thing we have in this life is our time and who we choose to give it to. It’s so important to have balance in relationships. If you give someone more than they give you, you are wasting valuable life. Equally, to take time from someone else knowing you won’t give back that same energy is wasting their time. This song is the moment that you see something or someone for what it is, and suddenly you have the power to decide whether you want to stay hanging on a thread, or to let go.”

The band have also shared a cinematic music video for ‘Minute of My Time’ which sees an underdog protagonist compete in a Scrabble competition.

About the video Abi says “Words can mean a lot. It’s so important to be direct with people and communicate what we really feel. Anything else feels dishonest…unless of course, you are playing Scrabble. In which case it is entirely acceptable to play word games.”

‘Minute of My Time’ follows previous singles ‘Undone‘Holding The Fire’, ‘Giving In’ and ‘Honest’, all taken from MarthaGunn’s forthcoming debut album ‘Something Good Will Happen’ due for release September 17th via Communion. It’s a record filled with raw and unfiltered, soul-baring love songs that capture the depth and breadth of the unbridled emotion, powered by conscientious songwriting and pristine pop melodies that have quickly caught the attention of tastemakers CLASH, Independent, Dork, 1883, The Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio 1 and John Kennedy (Radio X).

“This album is us navigating the relationships of our twenties so far – the failures and successes.” Abi explains. “Constantly trying to find out who you are as a person, and constantly growing. You don’t always grow the same as the people you are with. Sometimes you are on the same path as someone, then suddenly you’re not.”

“The overarching theme through this is losing oneself and rebuilding oneself and through doing that, you learn a lot about yourself.  You’re always going to face challenges in life that are going to tell you that you’re not good enough and let you question yourself, and it’s a constant daily reminder to look after your inner voice, and to treat yourself well by having boundaries.”

Following the release of ‘Minute of My Time’, Abi will be hosting a special songwriters circle event, ‘Into The Song’ on Monday 23rd August at St Pancras Old Church. With all profits going to charity, the intimate event will see songwriters play a stripped back version of an original song and dive into the writing process. The line-up for this event includes the likes of Freya Ridings, Dan’D Lion, Delilah Montague, Tamzene and Richard Walters.
