Alfie Boe is an English tenor and actor born Alfred Giovanni Roncalli Boe on 29 September 1973 in Blackpool, Lancashire. Raised in the nearby fishing port of Fleetwood as the youngest of nine children, he comes from a working-class background with Irish and Norwegian heritage. His parents named him after Pope John XXIII. As a teenager, Boe worked as an apprentice mechanic at a sports car factory in Blackpool, where colleagues overheard him singing opera arias under cars. This moment led to encouragement from others and his eventual transition into professional music. He attended local Catholic schools before training at the Royal College of Music, the National Opera Studio, and the Royal Opera House’s Young Artists Programme.
Boe’s breakthrough arrived when director Baz Luhrmann cast him in a lead role for the 2002 Broadway revival of La bohème, earning the cast a shared Tony Award. He gained wider recognition for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, performing the role in London’s West End, the 25th Anniversary Concert, the 2014 Broadway revival, and arena tours. Additional stage credits include Finding Neverland on Broadway. Boe has also appeared at major events such as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert and performed for the Royal Family on multiple occasions. His recording career began in 2006 with Classic FM, followed by releases on EMI and Decca. He has achieved multi-platinum sales in the UK, multiple Classical Brit Awards, and collaborative number-one albums with Michael Ball. In April 2026, Boe released Face Myself, his first album featuring predominantly original material, marking a shift toward more personal songwriting while retaining his signature tenor voice.
In 2026, Boe launched the Facing Myself UK Tour, a 35-date run across April and May supporting his new album and classic repertoire. The tour features fan favourites alongside fresh tracks, with special guest Jessica Sweetman on selected dates. It highlights prestigious venues and reflects his enduring popularity.

23 April: Gateshead, The Glasshouse

Further dates continue through May, culminating in a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 26 May. The tour spans major cities and underscores Boe’s connection with audiences through a blend of operatic power, musical theatre highlights, and introspective new work. Additional appearances extend later into 2026.
Boe’s career spans nearly three decades, moving from factory floors to opera houses, West End stages, and arenas. His performances emphasise vocal strength, emotional depth, and accessibility, appealing to classical and crossover audiences alike. As of April 2026, the Facing Myself tour continues to celebrate his journey while introducing fresh material rooted in personal reflection.
