Glaswegian indie/rockers The Rooks return with their new single, Right About Now. Uniting with long-time collaborator, GRAMMY Award-winning producer Jim Lowe (Foo Fighters, Stereophonics & more), Right About Now packs a punch and sonically it hears the band playing to their grittier rock strengths. Listen here.
Frontman Ross Gardiner has explained, “We wanted to try a different process in the studio this time, we’d been playing Right About Now live for a couple of months and we were comfortable with the arrangement, so we tracked most of it live.”
Guitarist Matthew McFadyen confesses, “The lyrics took some time, we’d been playing it through for a couple of weeks. I didn’t have much direction for the song lyrically at the time. I’d woken up somewhere I maybe shouldn’t have and wrote most of them down on an empty train carriage back home. There’s definitely more self reflection here, but I’ve got a lot to learn yet.”
The band recently announced that they will be joining the likes of Biffy Clyro, Fontaines D.C., Inhaler and more, at TRNSMT Festival this Summer! They will play the BBC Introducing Stage on Saturday 12th July, and are the only artist at this year’s TRNSMT without a manager, agent or label, and have earned this coveted spot on their own. Shortly before the festival, The Rooks will play three headline shows; Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s on 8th May, Dundee’s Roots on 9th May, and Newcastle’s The Cluny 2 on 25th June. Tickets are on sale now, here.
February saw the band release their track Get Up, which arrived just a day before the band’s biggest headline show to date at Glasgow’s King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, which sold out in a matter of days! This is no mean feat for an independent band so early in their infancy. With support slots for the likes of Blossoms and Dylan John Thomas on sold out UK tours already under their belt, The Rooks have also caught the attention of Scottish singer-song-writing legend Lewis Capaldi, and Stereophonics frontman, Kelly Jones.
Despite having only released two singles, both last year, the rising stars are ready to hit the ground running. Last year saw The Rooks release said singles, Lay Me Down and Renegade, which have racked up 50k+ streams combined on Spotify alone.
