Irish composer, pianist and producer Sarah Power has released ‘Prelude in E Minor (Reimagined)’ on August 7, 2026, a bold and deeply personal reimagining of Frédéric Chopin’s beloved masterpiece that asks a striking contemporary question: what if one of history’s greatest composers had been born into today’s world?
Originally available only as an exclusive bonus track on the vinyl edition of Sarah’s acclaimed debut project In The Shadows, the piece now receives its first standalone digital release. Alongside newly commissioned artwork by Vancouver-based artist Katie Oshiro, the release also features an immersive Dolby Atmos mix, allowing listeners to experience the work with remarkable depth and detail on supported streaming platforms.
Rather than creating a traditional interpretation of Chopin’s famous Prelude, Sarah has transformed the work into something entirely her own. Retaining the original melody while rebuilding its harmonic landscape through original string arrangements by Gareth Quinn Redmond, cinematic production and subtle electronic textures, the piece bridges nearly two centuries of musical history while remaining emotionally faithful to the original.
The project grew from Sarah’s fascination with the circumstances surrounding Chopin’s life. Written while the composer was living in exile following the failed November Uprising in Poland, the Prelude emerged during a period marked by illness, homesickness and political upheaval. Chopin later requested that the piece be performed at his own funeral, adding another layer of poignancy to one of classical music’s most emotionally resonant works.
As Sarah researched the composer’s life, the historical story became impossible to separate from today’s world.
Her debut artist project, In The Shadows, released in late 2025, showcased a collection of original contemporary classical works recorded on a restored 1920s August Förster upright piano. The release culminated in two sold-out performances at Dublin’s Dot Theatre before a successful Kickstarter campaign funded limited-edition vinyl and CD editions of the record.
